On Thursday, November 14, 2019, Connie Lynn (Smith) DeWees was welcomed into Eternity at the age of 60. She was a loving wife, mother of five, and grandmother of ten. She went to sleep losing her battle to lymphoma and woke up in the loving arms of her Savior.
Connie was born on November 13, 1959 to Lewis and Barbara (Brown) Smith. She learned to love Christ as her Savior at a young age. She served him faithfully as the wife of Cory Alan DeWees for 40 years. They were married on August 3, 1979 in Toledo, OH. Together they raised five children and taught them to do the same. Connie worked at Toledo Baptist Temple as a pre-school teacher for a short time. When her children were young, she worked in the daycare at Stateline Christian School. Later, when they were teenagers, she worked as a nurse’s aid at The Maples in Frankfort, MI and then at Adrian Healthcare in Adrian, MI.
Connie loved to be involved in her church. She worked wherever she was needed. It didn’t matter if it was in Sunday school, the nursery, vacation Bible school, or in the choir. Connie enjoyed spending time with the ladies’ at church. She always had a smile on her face. She loved being around her family, and became the favorite babysitter for most of her grandchildren. Connie learned to knit hats and scarves using a knitting loom. She prayed over every stitch for the grandchild that would receive it. She enjoyed watching The Walton’s, Lifetime and Hallmark’s holiday movies, and daytime court TV shows.
Connie is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Marie (Brown) Smith. She is survived by her husband, her five children: Christie-Ann Lewis, Benjamin DeWees, Caleb (Emily) DeWees, Tabitha DeWees, and Grace DeWees, ten grandchildren, her father, and five siblings.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Heritage Baptist Church, 1:00pm Saturday, November 23, 2019, located at 5542 Lewis Ave., Toledo, OH 43612.
